Global Medical Device Nomenclature
Global Medical Device Nomenclature represents the international standard for
naming medical devices providing a universal code, which is an essential parameter
sought and supplied when creating a new product entry for registration, in the
Product Tracking System. The GMDN Agency produces and assigns this code, in a
unique composition and universal order that accommodates a description, a
numerical value and information on classification of the product to which it belongs. If
this code, which must exist on all DoCs and other formal documents, has no
corresponding match in the lengthy list of codes already stored in the PTS database,
then it should be transliterated into Turkish.
GMDN codes are generic codes created by the GMDN Agency. They already exist in
overwhelming numbers in the Product Tracking System database. A GDMN code
without precedent entry duly made in the Product Tracking System by the Turkish
Health Ministry will require a transposition / transliteration process.
